More about Pulau Ubin (:

Pulau Ubin is in essence, the last 'kampung' (village) in Singapore. A stroll through Ubin takes you back to Singapore in the 1960's with the simpler pleasures of life. The slow lane starts as soon as you join the queue for the bumboat at Changi. As you arrive, all cares are left behind.

Ubin is a great day trip spent walking or pedaling through rustic roads under swaying coconut palms, exploring shady trails in overgrown rubber plantations, checking out secluded beaches and flourishing mangroves. On Ubin, the food tastes better, air is fresher and sights and sounds so soothing to the soul.

How to get to Ubin?
The adventure begins on the bumboat trip leaving from Changi Jetty.
Pulau Ubin is off Changi Point, accessible via Changi jetty (public bumboats) and Marina Country Club (guests of Ubin Lagoon Resort).
Take a bumboat from Changi Jetty (now called Changi Point Ferry Terminal), which is near the Changi Village Hawker Centre.
To get to the bumboats, go down the stairs at the Terminal. This Terminal also serves those going to Johor, so be sure to wait in the correct queue for Pulau Ubin.

Cost of the bumboat: $2.50/person (wef 15 Apr 08). Maximum 12 passengers.
Just join the queue and the boats will leave when they have 12 persons. If there are less than 12 persons, you might have to wait a little while until enough people turn up. Or you can pay $30 and go straight away.
Bumboat operators run from sunrise to sunset. You can make special arrangements with the operators for trips after dark.

What to do on Ubin?
LOTS! Choose from eating, cycling, walking and other fun activities
Or join a guided tour. Chek Jawa is also on Ubin and with the launch of the boardwalk, you can visit there any tide. Ubin is also full of interesting wildlife and plants.

Major Ubin sights and sites ...
Ubin Jetty: Your first stop with a good view of Ubin Town, Chek Jawa to the east. Stop by the NParks Info Kiosk at the exit to get a free pamphlet of Ubin and advice from the friendly NParks officers on how to spend your day on Ubin.

Ubin Town: has eating places, bicycle rental shops and provision shops that stock almost everything you could possibly need on your daytrip. Highlights include a wayang stage with a colourful history and a little shrine.

heading North: The Chek Jawa boardwalk is now open any tide. Also explore farms, fruit plantations, kampongs, rubber plantation being taken over by the forest to the two beaches on the northern shore of Ubin.

heading East: sensory trail, mangroves before rejoining the northern route.

heading West: quarry views, bukit puaka, mangroves and the Thai Temple.

History of Ubin
Ubin is full of history and a place of legends, with a fascinating geography and history. The island was an agricultural paradise, then a major quarry. It also had its role during World War II.

Essential info
Admission to the island is free. There are no opening or closing hours, but regular services only run during daylight hours. The NParks Information Kiosk is open 8.30am-5pm. Bumboats to and from Pulau Ubin, and public transport on the island operate from sunrise to sunset.

Hey, 4/4 'ians! :D

Hope you guys had fun at the chalet last year! :D Now it's a new year for us, and.. we're like sec 4s now!
Like time passes damn fast, but still we've gotta face it. ):

(ok i know this post's kind of weird here in this blog, but i think we're gonna have a new 4/4 blog soon :D So once its done, i'll del this para and move this to the new blog!)

Anyway, I'm here to tell you guys an important but not very important thing. (wah i suddenly sound so serious) *ahem, sorry.* Erm for this year, this blog will probably be the main platform for us to suggest, discuss, update and announce things. Probably not. cos it's only my suggestion haha :D

The reason for this is simple.. cos during school it's hard to get everyone's attention. everyone's doing their own stuff, some go out of class to maybe toilet during the breaks between lessons, while some rush home right after sch. And.. holding you guys back is not a pleasant thing to do, cos O'levs coming and maybe you guys want cherish the time now and.. you know, mug. haha anyway~ it's still open to objections. If you guys are ok with this idea, we can have it :D if not, it's fine!

& today, MrPoh mentioned sth about the Pulau Ubin thingy during March Hols. So.. maybe this would be sth that's going to be posted in future about its details and updates whatever? (:

Anyway, i'm a quite disorganized person, (as you all can see everyday) but i'm trying to.. like, change -.- cos some genius shouted my name just now. ok nvm, but then, i'll still do a good job in working with suxian to take care of some admin stuff for this class. Haha i hope you guys will like the way i do things.. Well its the first time i kena this kind of job in my whole life lah. So please pardon me if i make some mistakes along the way, and i'll do my best to change. tyty!

Seeya guys, 4/4 '09
work hard for O'levs man!
OHH AND WATCH LITTLE NYONYA NOW!!

Pictures!

Well, let's start with the group candid photos... ( alamak, why nvr take group picture??? *regrets*)

Well, card games are definitely a must...

Second most interesting game: POOL!!!

Following is a showcase of some of the the pool addicts in 34o8 (who frequents the pool for those 2 days) :

some people even go there up to 3 times a day! (okay, actually I'm one of the "some people" with daili and yeowpeng LOL)

I dont think that we even 3 study times a week during our holidays (:

Okay, if you call sleeping an addiction too, the following 2 people are definitely addicted already... (sleeping even during the day) chalet always makes people sleepy in broad daylight

Oh, this picture below depicts 2 ladies from 3/4 trying to use up those untouched and wasted water bombs. Some of the targets include trees, windows, rooftops, windows on the 2nd floor and even the floor... actually there are events planned for you guys, just that nobody initiated it... so wasted, but I hope next year would be a better year (:

let's end of with this comical picture of a horny mascot of 3/4 :

( There're very little pictures taken, cos everyone's busy having fun! LOL! Some are just random shots, not taken by me though, all credits to Jerrica!)

CLASS CHALET- TOMORROW!!!

December 7, 2008;
3:24 PM

hey people!
I'll be meeting up with Suxian and Angie at 12:20pm sharp at AMK Hub (outside NTUC) to buy all the stuff needing for the chalet. This includes cup noodles, BBQ stuff like serviettes, steel skewers, lighters, charcoal and also (last but not least) the most (cheapest) fabulous tastiest wonderfullest.... syrup!

For those of you who are interested to come too, please inform us and we'll (of course) be very very happy (cos less load to carry) yay! :D
ok, the most important thing now.

PLEASE EVERYONE, ask around for anyone aged 21 years and above to HELP US CHECK IN!! ask your parents! it's very important yet not very important.. why? cos last year i was the one who helped my class check in, and they leniently let us in. and yes, it's NSRCC. so if worst come to worst no one can help us out, we'll have to.. erm, use the last resort. yah

ok, the second most important thing.
i think many ppl will regret not placing their orders for cup noodles in this blog cos until now there's only 3 ppl who wants it!! err actually 5, cos celine buying herself and i dowan put my name there on the list. so guys, please respond!

& tmr when we meet we'll buy a few more extra, but we won't guarantee there'll be enough for everyone for the 3D2N who wants but never place their order here. so please DO PLACE YOUR ORDERS HERE BEFORE TMR to avoid disappointment! ty very much!

third most important thing!
transport: from Tanah Merah, (according to suxian), you guys can take the shutter bus provided to NSRCC, even though you're not a member. If you guys choose to take the shutter bus, please refer to the timing stated 2 posts before this post by suxian and don't be late. if you guys choose to take cab from TM to chalet, I'll suggest you guys meet in groups of 4 to cab there, cos it's cheaper when the cost (around $6) is split into 4

fourth most important thing!
BBQ food: i'll order the BBQ food list stated in the previous post in a few mins time, plus stingray.

fifth most important thing!
please behave yourselves when you guys are in the chalet (that doesn't apply to me)

sixth most important thing..
stay united as a class, everyone!

that's all from me!

;
10:49 AM

YESYES list agn (same list actlly)

Things to bring:
1. Clothes. 4 sets recommended for those staying for 3D2N.
2. Undergarment. (dont forget)
3. Towel. bring at least 2 in case one gets stolen by ghost or fell off while you're in the train.
4. Shampoo. NO stinky hairs allowed
5. Soap. it wont be provided
6. Facial cream? (especially after BBQ, your face gets very oily. soap is bad for your face)
7. Jacket. the whole bungalow will be air-conditioned, gets cold at night. highly recommended.
8. Socks (not for christmas purposes)
9. Sleeping clothes
10. Sleeping bags. or if you want to bring your bed, we're fine with it.
11. comb (do it in the toilet. we dont want strands of hair all over the place)
12. poker cards
13. money. or you can go rob a bank during your stay. but dont come back after that
14. handphone charger!! this is important.
15. ezlink card
16. torchlight. if you think your bag's too empty, bring it. we'll need it if the bungalow blacks out (for nightwalk)
17. insect repellent. but trust me, the whole bungalow's enclosed and air conditioned throughout our 3 day stay. no mosquitos will come inside.
18. plasters
19. medicines, if you need to take any.
20. hanger?

December 6, 2008;
3:29 PM

Oh also, if you wanna use the jaccuzi or sauna or swimming pool, pls bring your swimwear along(: (no need shy lah, sauna can wrap yourself in towel;)

For pool (those billiard kind) 2 bucks for one round and there's bowling there too!

;
2:05 PM

IMPORTANT STUFF (IT HELPS YOU SAVE MONEY$$$$$)

There's no need spend extra money on cab, cos there's a free shuttle bus service (though they said it's for staff members, we can board it too) . But there's a scheduled timing :

Picking up from Tanah Merah MRT Station:

10.00am
10.30am
11.00am
1.30pm
2.30pm
3.30pm
5.00pm
6.00pm
7.30pm
8.30pm

Leaving from NSRCC to Tanah Merah Mrt Stn:

10.15am
11.25am
1.15pm
3.15pm
3.45pm
4.30pm
5.15pm
7.15pm
8.45pm
9.45pm
10.30pm

How to get there:

After alighting at Tanah Merah MRT STN,

go down the escalator and turn LEFT.

Go up and you'll see a TAXI STAND.

Wait there patiently and you'll see a white bus

with the NSRCC logo on it and board it, yeah.

So if you are meeting as a group, please plan your time wisely to avoid missing the bus service. I'll be taking the 2.30pm bus cos I'll be setting the stations for the amazing race. Anyone who wants to go with me (Suxian), pls msg me. If you missed the timing or whatsoever, the cab fare is around $6++ (more $$ if its peak hour)
Okay more details:
This is how our bungalow looks like (elegant but a bit small)

After alighting from the bus, find your way to the reception (very noticeable), then keep walking to the left until you see the swimming pool. Go past the swimming pool and go to the left road and you should see this:

Keep walking in...

Tadaa! a mini pond with a mini fountain.. and there it is, Bungalow no. 22

Class Chalet - Latest Updates

December 2, 2008;
10:02 PM

Chalet matters again!

Received an sms from both Syafinah and Janice today, saying that they'll be going for the chalet too! :D three cheers for another two more 3/4'ians going! However, Gabriel won't be able to come for chalet (though he has alr paid) cos he got an overseas trip with his family.. ):

So, the number of ppl going for the chalet will be 28, but since Gabriel doesn't want any refund, there'll be 29 ppl paying for the chalet (:
Hence the following will be about the new arrangements for the payments:

From previous post, the exact amount of money in need
= $62.85 (pls check previous post for more info & details)

Currently, the exact amount of money in need would be
= $62.85 - $32 (from Syafinah and Janice)
= $30.85

Hence, the exact amount each person has to pay during chalet would be
= $30.85 / 28
= $1.10178571...
= $2.00 (the extra $25.15 collected will go to next year's class fund)

Well, personally I feel that $2 is much easier to collect/pay than the nearest possible amount, $1.10. However, if you guys prefer to pay $1.10, please please feel free to voice out your suggestions (: actually $1.50 also can :D

Tagboard News
Ohh yes, a special order from Regina - Stingray!
Calling for all those who wants stingray for BBQ: please tag if you want it too!
And Angie wants every single raw thing except the kids fav and veges.

Money Matters
Since our class fund money has only $148.30, we need you guys to top up some money for our BBQ..
And also there are only 27 people's going for the chalet, everyone (including myself) has to pay an extra $1.11 to cover up for the $30 that nobody's paying. cos we expected 30 ppl to go.. ):
So let's say if we really use the order list above,

181.15 - 148.30 = $32.85 (money needed to top up for BBQ)
$32.85 + $30.00 = $62.85 (BBQ+Chalet money that needs to be topped up)
$62.85 / 27 = $2.3277777777777777.... (the exact amt everyone has to pay)
---------------- = $2.50. (the extra $4.65 will go to next year's class fund)

So, everyone who's going for the chalet must pay another $2.50 ): very very sorry about that.. hope you guys will understand.
Maybe treat it like a small 'entrance fee'? :x Coasta Sand's entrance fee is $1.. haha
For any enquires, please blog about it.. here!

Ohh and one more thing - Cup noodles and snacks!
Money again.. what a headache
For main courses like dinner, lunch and breakfast, maybe you guys would want to go out to eat at foodcourt or wherever,
For tea and supper those kind, maybe you guys want to have, erm, some cup noodles to eat in chalet?

In that case, you all have to get the cup noodles/snacks from the supermarket (which is quite far from the chalet.) So i suggest a simpler way - We buy the stuff before going there. But can't claim money from class fund, cos we're using it for bbq.. and it's really not enough alr.

So, yah. If you guys want, i think NTUC sell $4+ for 8 cups. Please place your order somewhere in this blog so we know around how many to buy and we can go and buy :D then when you all eat that time can pay back the super exact amount (: i think around 50cents

Ohh, and if you guys want to meet up first to go tgt, please voice it out here too! (:

And right now everyone paid the full $16 except for Hilmie, Suxian and Joe Wei! The 3 of you can pay me during the chalet, doesn't matter :D

See you guys soon!
